STORY SHARING WITH HOST BARBARA COLACIELLO

Please join us for a magical, fun night of TALES + MUSIC + ART + TREATS + LIBATIONS. As we approach our five year anniversary, story slams offer an opportunity for people to share a true story, hone the craft of oral storytelling, and connect with community. Storytellers have 5 to 7 minutes each to tell a TRUE personal story based on a THEME chosen for the event without the use of notes.

First-timers WELCOME!!!

Audience members get to vote for their fave storyteller! The winner of the popular vote receives a $50.00 Gift Certificate to WOLF & CUB, our favorite downtown Jax sponsor retail shop.

THEME: HEAD OVER HEELS

Inspiration: This expression originated in the 1300s as heels over head and meant literally being upside down. It took its present form in the 1700s and its present meaning in the 1800s.

WHAT'S A STORY SLAM?

A story slam is a live storytelling friendly competition similar to poetry slams. Storytellers have 5 to 7 minutes each to tell a TRUE personal story based on a THEME chosen for the event without the use of notes.

HOW IT WORKS

• Every story slam event has a THEME.

• Audience members can prepare a story and enter their name in a hat or decide to sit back and listen.

• 8 - 10 people's names are picked from the hat.

• At the end of the evening the audience votes for their favorite storyteller.

• The winner receives a $50.00 gift certificate!

STORY SLAM RULES

•Story must connect to the Theme.

•No notes.

•No props.

•Please no ranting, no preaching, no politicizing.

*Story must be within the time limit of 8 to 10 minutes.
