Step into Jacksonville’s most intimate, high-energy storytelling space — BABS’LAB

— for an evening of true stories, tasty treats, and good vibes! ✨ Hosted by Babs Colaciello, our December 12th Story Slam — HIDDEN ALTARS — invites you to reveal what you honor, carry, or keep tucked away. The objects charged with meaning. The quiet sanctuaries that shape us, guide us, and ground us.
Come share your five-minute true story, or settle in to listen as others reveal the hidden altars in their lives. 

HIDDEN ALTARS INSTALLATION

As a special touch for this celebration, Hidden Altars will be displayed throughout the Lab, created by the patron saints of BABS’LAB — an immersive tribute to the shrines we build inside ourselves and throughout our lives.

First Place Winner — Castaways Vintage to Modern
Owner Jason Roth has generously doubled the prize: a $100 gift certificate to the winner.

Second Place Winners
Each second-place storyteller receives a $20 gift certificate to a local Jacksonville favorite and an invitation to the pre–Grand Slam Run-Off Story Marathon — a chance to earn a spot in the Grand Slam.

THE EVENING

7:00 PM — Intimate Reception
Featuring a menu crafted by Faye Woods (Boomtown Theatre) and Stephen Dare (Floating Seas Café) — soulful, inventive, unforgettable.

8:00 PM — Story Slam Begins
Step into the circle for HIDDEN ALTARS: true stories of the rituals, relics, and inner sanctuaries that shape us.

What’s a Story Slam?

• 10 people's names are picked from the hat.

• Storytellers have 5 minutes each to tell a TRUE personal story based on a THEME.

• At the end of the evening the audience Votes for their favorite storyteller.

• Story must connect to the Theme.

• No notes. No props.

•Please no political ranting, no preaching.
