BABS'LAB is proud to present FullPowerless, an audio-visual storytelling event, written and performed by emerging performance artist CHLOE SMITH. In her debut performance, Smith shares her personal journey from a tumultuous childhood immersed in the ultra-conservative Jehovah's Witness cult to redemption through the power and beauty of Jacksonville’s artistic community.

Accompanied by a live musical score by Cats to Whip and the original visual art of Matthew S. Bennett, Smith states, “This performance represents my truth, and I am obligated and honored to tell it. Because of my choices in life, many have chosen to shun me. FullPowerLess is my way of having a voice and lifting others through my experiences."

ABOUT
Chloe Smith has been a presence in the Jacksonville arts and culture community for three years, starting her journey as a model for portrait and figure artists, photographers, and figure study groups. The influence and inspiration surrounding Smith helped her find her voice, study improvisation with Barbara Colaciello and perform short extemporaneous stories at the Story Slam at BABS’LAB. FullPowerLess is her first full-length show.

THE COLLABORATORS
Matthew S. Bennett
is a full-time visual artist with a career spanning two decades. His work can be seen as part of the permanent collection at the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala,  FL. Matthew has been creating paintings, drawings, and photographs that have been exhibited from Tokyo, Japan to Jacksonville, Florida. His aesthetic captures the pain and ugliness of the human experience in a beautiful, captivating way.  We are honored to feature Matthew's original drawings, a triptych that interprets Chloe's experience, in its ugliness and in its beauty.

ABOUT CATS TO WHIP
The solo modular-synnthesized brain-child of Nathan Smith, front man of Jacksonville-based post-punk indie rock band Secret Cigarettes, Cats to Whip strips away the noise of a four-piece rock ensemble to build, layer by layer, an audio experience that reflects his singular inner world, projecting it into the chaos of external life experiences. The original score produced and performed for FullPowerLess is especially meaningful to Nathan as the Chloe's journey has led to their partnership and marriage in 2018. Cats to Whip will be releasing the soundtrack after the performance.
